Hey everyone! I'm a newcomer to Linux and have just started using Ubuntu for my Operating Systems class in university. I recently watched a PewDiePie video about Linux, which got me interested in exploring different distributions. I'm looking for some suggestions for Linux distros that aren't too advanced like Arch but also not too basic, as I want to be able to customize my system more in the future. So far, I've considered Fedora, but I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been using Linux for a while and tried many distros. I think starting with Linux Mint is fantastic for a newbie. It's perfect for everything — work, browsing, and even gaming. I've hopped through a bunch of distros wondering if something else is better, but I always come back to Mint. If you want an alternative, Fedora is also gaining popularity for gamers. Good luck on your Linux journey!

So, should I lean more towards Linux Mint or Fedora, considering my focus on gaming and customization?

Honestly, Fedora might be your best bet! It's not too complicated for beginners but offers a lot of room to grow. Debian is another stable option if you want something that's hands-on without sacrificing stability. OpenSUSE Tumbleweed provides a rolling release model, kind of like Arch, but is more stable. Just avoid Arch for now — it's not beginner-friendly at all!

Sounds like good advice! I like the idea of starting with something stable and then branching out later.

It really depends on how involved you want to be with your OS. While almost everything runs on any Linux distro, some are easier than others for specific software. Both Fedora and Ubuntu are stable and user-friendly, but for something that looks nice, check out Zorin OS. However, I'd steer clear of Arch right now; it’s a hassle for newbies. Just get familiar first, and consider virtualization to try out different distros without committing completely!

If you're looking for something with a Windows-like experience, I'd suggest Linux Mint. It's often recommended for beginners and is really easy to get started with. But if gaming is your main goal, consider Nobara or Bazzite — both based on Fedora but tailored for gaming. Nobara has lots of gaming stuff pre-installed, while Bazzite offers a more stripped-down experience but is still great for gaming. If you want to dive into customizations later, Nobara could be the way to go!

That sounds perfect! I also think Nobara would be a solid choice for your gaming needs without tons of hassle.

You can pretty much customize any distro to your liking. Someone mentioned Debian in the comments, but since you're already using Ubuntu, you should know that it’s essentially Debian with some extra features. If you're interested in Fedora, it’s also a great choice because it's beginner-friendly and up-to-date. You can easily install and swap out packages if you want to customize it later!

Yeah, Fedora really has a good balance of being user-friendly while still offering flexibility. You’ll find it great for experimenting!
