Is it time to upgrade my CPU due to performance issues?

I've been using my Ryzen 3 3200G CPU for about five years mainly for gaming. Recently, I added an RX 580 to relieve some strain from the CPU and upgraded to a new NVMe SSD for Windows 11, along with a BIOS update. However, I'm experiencing random lags and FPS drops while playing games like League of Legends, Sekiro, and Genshin Impact on low to mid settings—this was not an issue before I upgraded my storage. I've checked for corrupted files and drivers, and my temperatures look okay (CPU: 60-70°C, GPU: 55-68°C), but my CPU utilization spikes from 60% to 90% and even 100% quickly. Is it really time to upgrade my CPU?

Honestly, it sounds like it's time for an upgrade. The Ryzen 3 3200G was decent for its time, but it's really starting to struggle with modern gaming demands. The good news is that options like the Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X are fairly affordable now and could give you a significant boost. If you're on a tight budget, even something like the 5600G or 5500 can help out a lot, especially paired with your RX 580. Just a tip—make sure XMP in your BIOS is enabled, as running RAM at 2133 MHz can really hurt your gaming performance too.

Thanks for your input! My XMP is already enabled, and both of my RAM sticks are running at 2666. Unfortunately, I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, but I'm saving up to get that 5600 soon. Prices for those CPUs are going up in my country since builders are returning to AM4 due to RAM costs.

It's tough to say if your CPU is dying just based on FPS drops alone. Many factors could be causing those issues—latency, other hardware problems, software glitches, or even your ISP messing with packet routing. CPU usage spikes are pretty normal too, and troubleshooting often means swapping parts out until you pinpoint the issue. Unless you have a spare CPU for testing or a shop that can diagnose for free, upgrading might be your best bet to see if that fixes it.

A dying CPU usually shows symptoms more severe than just lag. From my experience, when a CPU fails, it tends to behave erratically or not work at all. When you get those FPS drops, it's likely an issue with something else in your system or configuration rather than a failing CPU.

Definitely consider upgrading if you're consistently facing these issues. While it's true that sometimes weird lags might not mean a dying CPU, the 3200G is on the lower side for today's gaming standards. Getting a newer chip could make a world of difference!
