I did something a bit reckless and now I'm in a bit of a panic. I tried downloading a demo game using GOG, and after the download completed, I deleted the file for no particular reason. Now, my school Chromebook is acting weird. I found that Avast antivirus installed on it without me knowing, and it's sending me constant notifications asking for payment. Before this, the laptop was working just fine without it. I'm concerned I might have installed malware, and I really need help getting rid of this issue. I have a school project coming up, and I don't want to tell the tech guy at school because last time they charged my parents when I had a screen issue. Can anyone help me out?

Don’t worry too much about getting charged for this. Usually, schools don't charge for software issues—it's mostly hardware repairs. You should be fine to fix this on your own!
It sounds like when you downloaded the demo, it might have included Avast as a bundle, which isn't uncommon. It's not malware, just bloatware. You can uninstall it by going to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Avast, then hit delete. That should stop the notifications and free up some space on your laptop.
Make sure you check if you actually opened the file you downloaded. Sometimes antivirus notifications can just be about trial versions expiring rather than real threats. If it's bothering you, just go ahead and uninstall it.
