Looking to Upgrade My 2012 CPU—What Should I Get?

I'm trying to modernize my computer which has an older CPU from 2012. It still manages to handle most games, but I'm feeling stuck, especially on Windows 10. I'm looking for an affordable upgrade, ideally something from 2018 and onwards, that will help bring my PC into the new decade. What other components, like RAM or GPU, might I also need to upgrade? Here are my current specs:
- Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 3.40 GHz
- RAM: 24 GB
- GPU: Radeon RX 580 (8 GB)
- System Type: 64-bit
If you need more information, just let me know! Thanks a lot!

Platforms like AM4 or LGA1700 are affordable, especially if you check the used market. You can upgrade your CPU, board, and memory while still using your RX 580 for now.

You should definitely get an SSD if you don't have one yet—it's one of the biggest upgrades you can make. Along with that, you’ll likely need a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM to modernize your setup properly, especially for things like Windows 11.

You could keep your current GPU for now and just upgrade the motherboard and CPU. You'll also want to invest in new RAM that fits with your new motherboard. A new PSU is a good idea too. Just make sure everything is compatible!

I think your RX 580 is still relatively valuable, so you can keep that for future upgrades. Just swapping the motherboard for a newer one that fits your budget will make a big difference!

Honestly, you might want to consider a full rebuild. While your GPU is still decent, many other parts will be holding you back. If you can, I’d look for a used system that's around five years old, as they'll give you a solid upgrade without breaking the bank.
