My cat accidentally spilled water onto my PC, and it soaked my GPU while some water went through the vents. I think the motherboard is safe since the monitors didn't turn off, but I'm nervous about the GPU being damaged. I've removed it, used an air compressor to get the water out of small spaces, and applied isopropyl alcohol to help the drying process. I'm giving it at least a week to dry before trying to power it on, but I'm concerned: is my GPU fried? Could a damaged GPU harm my motherboard if I turn it back on in a week? I don't have the budget to replace a 4070 GPU right now and I'd like to keep using it if possible.

Did anyone suggest the classic rice trick? 😂 Honestly though, after a spill like this, just be extra careful for your next setup!
Chances are your GPU is fine, especially since you didn’t notice any immediate problems. The CPU would only kick in if the HDMI or DisplayPort from the GPU wasn't connected correctly. I recommend drying it out fully and giving it time—using a box fan can speed things up. Just make sure water didn't find its way into the power supply or connectors because that's where bigger problems could arise!
Good point, I think water did get into the power supply. Should I get a new one just to be safe?
If it's any consolation, just plain water should evaporate without too much trouble. Better to be cautious though!
One thing to watch out for is if the air compressor you used could have sprayed more water in. But since you didn’t hear any popping sounds, that’s a good sign. Using isopropyl alcohol to wash the GPU is smart too; just make sure everything's totally dry before you plug it back in. Your main worry is if water got into any connectors—those could cause issues later. Letting it air out for a day should be enough, but keep an eye on those connections!
I actually meant to say I used a can of compressed air specifically for electronics, and I was careful to help it dry faster—fingers crossed it all works out!
The best way to avoid these problems is to just not let them happen in the first place! Keep your workspace cat-free to prevent disasters.
True, but let’s actually offer advice rather than put people down! It's tough managing pets and tech.

LOL, I heard that from a friend! I’ll definitely be more careful about my cats and my PC from now on!
