I've been troubleshooting my PC after upgrading to a new 1440p monitor and making it my primary display, while using my old monitor as a secondary screen. Initially, everything was running smoothly for about a week. However, I started experiencing black screen crashes just yesterday while playing games like Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Bellwright. The crashes happen after a few minutes of gameplay, but everything functions well during regular browsing.
When the crash occurs, the screen goes black with a 'no display' message, yet the PC remains powered on. Sometimes the EZ debug light is stuck on VGA, and other times it's off entirely. I'm wondering if this might indicate a power supply issue. My GPU is fairly power-efficient, and I upgraded the PSU just three months ago.
I've done several software checks, including cleaning storage and running SFC and DISM scans, but the crashes persist. I've also tried different ports on the GPU and monitor, stress-tested the GPU without any issues, and even underclocked the GPU, which did extend the gameplay time slightly.
Eventually, I disconnected the 1440p monitor and used only the 1080p monitor and didn't experience any crashes, being able to play Overwatch without interruptions. So now I'm left wondering if the 1440p monitor is at fault or if the PSU could still be an issue. My PC specs are:
- GPU: 9060xt 16GB
- PSU: MSI MAG A650BN Bronze 80 Plus
- CPU: Ryzen 5600
- Motherboard: MSI 550 Gaming Plus
- RAM: 2x8 3200 Vengeance
- Storage: 500GB SATA SSD
Temperature-wise, my components don't go higher than 80 degrees, so I don't think overheating is the problem. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your video card might be overheating or there could be a power supply issue. Adding that second monitor could be putting too much strain on your system when you're gaming. Good luck sorting it out!
Have you tried swapping your cables? If you're using DisplayPort, try HDMI instead. Sometimes the cable can cause issues, especially with different monitor resolutions.
I’m currently using DisplayPort for the 1440p monitor. I'll definitely look into getting an HDMI cable to see if that changes anything.
I had a similar issue where my screen would black out occasionally because I was running two different resolutions. It might help to run just your new 1440p monitor alone during gaming. I found that reduced issues for my setup!
I did try only using the 1440p monitor, but it still crashed. Interestingly, using just the 1080p monitor seemed fine for about two hours without any issues.

But isn't the 9060xt along with a 650W PSU generally enough for 1440p gaming? Does using dual monitors really cause crashes like this?
