I'm receiving a lot of spam calls daily and I'm looking for a solution to block all incoming calls that aren't from my contacts. Is there an app or a built-in feature on smartphones that can do this? Ideally, I want calls from unknown numbers to go directly to voicemail or be automatically hung up on. Just to note, I will disable this feature when I need to take job calls.

It really depends on what kind of phone you have. Most smartphones have a setting for that. For example, on my Samsung, I can go into the Phone app, hit Settings, then Block Numbers, and toggle on the option to block calls from unknown numbers. Check your phone's settings to see if it has something similar!

I use Google Voice linked to my phone. It filters calls really well. If a number isn't in my contacts, the caller has to leave their name before my phone even rings! I can then choose to answer the call or block it. It's great, especially for those important calls you might expect from unknown numbers.

If you're using an iPhone, you can silence calls from unknown numbers by going to Settings and searching for 'silence.' You'll find the option 'Silence Unknown Callers' for your Phone app. This way, those calls won't ring but may still show up in your notifications.

On my Samsung Galaxy S22, I set it to a night mode that only allows calls from my contacts between 9 PM and 9 AM. It's super handy if you want to avoid spam calls during the night.

Absolutely, you can block unknown numbers, but keep in mind it might block any calls from numbers you don't have saved—like job interviews or important calls from your doctor that might come from new numbers. It's a balance! Sometimes, I wish I could do the same since I've had my number for ages and get so many spam calls now.
