Upgrading My GPU for Better Video Editing Performance—Any Recommendations?

I'm facing some frustrating lag issues while using the new AI tools in DaVinci Resolve, particularly with the cinematic haze feature. My current setup includes an AMD Ryzen 7 3700x processor, an ASUS TUF x570 plus motherboard, and a GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. I've got a 750 Watt inWin power supply, 120mm liquid cooling, and 1TB of WD Blue SSD for storage. I recently upgraded to 32GB of RAM but I'm unsure of the brand and speed. I'm considering upgrading to a 3070 or 3070 Ti for the GPU to improve my editing performance. Do you think that will be sufficient? Any other suggestions? I've been using this setup for six years and it feels like it's time for an upgrade.

Upgrading your GPU to a 3070 or 3070 Ti should definitely improve your experience, but keep in mind that if your projects are particularly demanding, you might still encounter some lags. Also, upgrading your storage could be a game-changer—try to free up space or get that external SSD. Your RAM upgrade is a good step too, but just make sure everything is harmonizing well. Sometimes it’s not just one component that needs upgrading!

Both the 3070 and 3070 Ti can definitely help with video editing, but depending on the complexity of your projects, you might still run into some slowdowns. Performance largely hinges on how much VRAM you have, so if you can, consider going for a 3080 or even a 4070 if it's within your budget. Also, I’d suggest checking out this video I found—it explains how you can make do with less VRAM but with some noticeable performance impact: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AUcYJczWXT4

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate the suggestion. I just realized that my SSD is nearly full, which might be affecting performance as well. I’ve read that some users run Resolve off an external SSD like the Samsung T7. Do you think that could help?

Yes, managing your storage could really boost your performance! An external SSD can help with read/write speeds. Just make sure it's fast enough to keep up with video editing tasks.
