Why Isn’t My Nvidia GPU Detected in Ubuntu?

I'm having a problem with my Nvidia GPU on my Asus laptop not being recognized by Ubuntu. Despite the integrated GPU working fine, the system seems to have completely overlooked my Nvidia card after an initial successful installation. I've already tried a couple of things: I installed the Nvidia driver using a .run file and then tinkered with the GRUB configuration due to some BIOS issues. I've since reverted the GRUB changes and purged all the Nvidia drivers, but still no luck. Secure boot is disabled, so that shouldn't be a problem. I just want to get my GPU back up and running so I can utilize it for graphics tasks. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What specific Nvidia model are you working with? That could help narrow down the potential issues you're facing. Sometimes specific drivers work better with certain models, so knowing that might give us a clearer path to a solution.

In the future, it's much better to install drivers through the package manager instead of manually downloading them. This way, they'll get updated automatically whenever you update your system. Have you tried checking for drivers via the 'Additional Drivers' section in Ubuntu? It might help you find the right one that your system can recognize.
