Should I Upgrade to a 5700X3D or Switch to an AM5 System?

I'm currently running a four-year-old computer with a 5600X CPU paired with a 4070 Super. Gaming at 1440p on high settings has been solid, but I'm noticing high CPU usage in some newer games, leading to poor 1% lows and a less-than-smooth experience. I'm considering two upgrade paths: I can either buy a 5700X3D for around 300 euros from a local store, or make the jump to an AM5 system for about 950 euros, mainly due to high DDR5 RAM prices. What do you think I should do? Should I go for the 5700X3D and invest the remaining cash in a nice OLED monitor, or should I bite the bullet and upgrade to AM5 before prices increase even more? Thanks for your advice!

Definitely get the 5700X3D and treat yourself to that OLED monitor. I use a 5700X3D for competitive gaming in 4K and it performs flawlessly. For story games, you'll find CPU demands are lower, so no worries there!

Quick question: do you play any competitive shooters like Warzone? I'm facing some issues with high CPU usage too.

I upgraded from a 5600 to a 5700X3D and it’s been great! If you mainly play story games and can hit 60+ fps at 1440p, you’ll really see the benefit. I get well over 100 fps on high settings, so for that price, it's a solid choice!

Thanks for sharing! I’d be thrilled to maintain 60+ fps at 1440p too.

Honestly, at that price point, I'd recommend going with the 5700X3D and stick with AM4 for a while longer. It'll be a good upgrade without breaking the bank!
