Help! My Friend’s Laptop Screen is Scrambled – Any Fixes?

I recently borrowed a friend's laptop, and after they left it in the boot of their car for the weekend, the screen started showing a scrambled image when I turned it on. The odd thing is, when I connect it to a TV, the display is perfect, which makes me think the onboard GPU isn't the problem. I'm suspecting it might be the ribbon cable, but I'm curious if there are other things I should check once I open it up.

Before diving in, check how much a replacement screen would cost. They can be pretty pricey to replace. Also, when you open it up, make sure to disconnect the battery first – you don't want to risk frying the motherboard since laptops have delicate parts.

I appreciate that! I usually pull them apart pretty often at work, so I'm familiar with the insides.

Yeah, standard screens (not the fancy 4K ones) typically range from £40 to £70, which isn't too bad if you find out that it is indeed the screen that’s faulty.

You might want to try tilting the laptop's screen a bit and gently pressing on the top and bottom. If the picture changes, it could indicate a connection issue.

Will do that, thanks for the tip!
