Issue with iMac Not Recognizing USB Devices

My dad is having a tough time getting his new iMac desktop to recognize DVD players and thumb drives. He followed Apple's instructions and even ordered a new DVD player, but it's still not working. The iMac only has two USB-C ports in the back. They're using some adapters and cables: one is a USB-C to USB-A for the thumb drive, and another is a USB-A with a split to USB-C for the DVD player. Everything works just fine on his old iMac and on a Mac laptop, so it seems like the new iMac is the issue. He's also reached out to Apple Care in India, but they haven't been helpful at all.

You might want to try connecting the devices directly to the iMac’s USB ports instead of using a third-party hub or dock. I’ve had problems in the past with those setups not working correctly. Good luck with it!

I tried that too, but it didn’t work. The same cable works on my laptop and the older iMac, but the A-C connection isn't working on the new Mac. What’s going on?

It seems unlikely that both the DVD player and thumb drives are USB-C, especially since he only has USB-C ports on the iMac.
