Hey everyone! I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 5700X with a 9060XT 16GB GPU. In CS2, during intense combat situations, I notice my FPS drops down to around 180-190, which can lead to stuttering, especially with my Superlight Pro X 2 mouse. I've seen that the 9800X3D is said to maintain 350+ FPS for the 1% lows in CS2. I also have a 280Hz monitor, and I'm playing in a 4:3 resolution. I'm looking for advice on whether upgrading to the 9800X3D would significantly improve my performance and if it's worth the investment. Thanks!

For high FPS gaming, the CPU plays a huge role. That said, unless you're super competitive, 180+ FPS should still be more than enough. The stuttering you're experiencing might be a RAM or software issue rather than just the CPU.
Just a thought: when I test on my private match, I don't drop below 180 FPS, which means I can aim better. But I understand that dropping from 300 to 180 on a 280Hz monitor is noticeable and frustrating, especially on 4:3 stretched. One quick fix might be to cap your FPS at 180 to help with the stuttering while you weigh your options for a new CPU.
Most reviews say the 9800X3D is impressive, but you should also consider what GPU and resolution they were using. If you're looking for a substantial upgrade, even the 7800X3D or 7600X3D would be huge improvements. If your budget allows, getting the 9800X3D makes sense!
Upgrading to the 9800X3D would definitely boost your CPU performance, particularly for those 1% lows. Just a heads up, it is quite an expensive upgrade though!

If I sold my old CPU, RAM, and motherboard, I'd be looking at around 700€ for the upgrade, maybe even a bit less.
