Looking for a Simple Screenshot App on Linux Without Popups

I recently switched to Linux (specifically Kubuntu 24) and I'm on the hunt for a straightforward replacement for Greenshot, which I used for years on Windows. While I've tried Spectacle, I find it cumbersome and unnecessarily complicated for my needs.

Here's what I'm looking for in a screenshot app:

- When I hit Print Screen, I want a rectangular selection cursor to capture a specific area.
- While I'm in selection mode, I should be able to press the spacebar to quickly choose a window to capture just that.
- Hitting Shift+Print Screen should capture the entire screen.
- The app needs to copy the image to the clipboard as a PNG and save it automatically in /Pictures/Screenshots, organized by year, month, and a custom filename.
- Most importantly, I want this app to run completely in the background without any pop-up windows during the process.

Is there an app that can be set up exactly like this?

I'm curious why you want to avoid pop-ups? Are you taking a lot of screenshots in quick succession or something?

I was going to recommend Flameshot, but it does have pop-ups. It can be configured to do a lot, but it might turn into more work than you want to deal with.

You should check out Grim and Slurp. Grim works really well without showing any pop-ups and has the features you're looking for. You'll need to set up your keyboard shortcuts in Kubuntu to match what you want, but there are example commands available for full screen and selections. The setup might not be super beginner-friendly, but if you run into issues, feel free to ask for help! Let me know how it goes.

You might want to look into Shutter and Flameshot as well. They offer a decent range of features, although I'm not sure if they meet all your criteria for not having pop-ups.
