Help! I Might Have Installed a Virus from a Zip File, What Now?

I've been downloading repacked games for years, so I was surprised when I ran into an issue recently. I was installing a repack file when I accidentally downloaded a zip file instead of the torrent version I intended to get. I forgot to check it on VirusTotal and while trying to unzip it, my Google Chrome crashed. It felt off, so I deleted the file immediately and halted any activity concerning it. However, a day later, I unknowingly posted a car for sale on a marketplace from another country. Thankfully, I don't have any online banking accounts, so I feel financially safe, but I'm really worried about the state of my laptop now. Can I fix this with a reformat, or is there a better solution?

Honestly, if it’s not from fitgirl.ru, you should be wary. That's like the only repacker everyone usually trusts. But since you mentioned using Dodi repacks because Fitgirl didn’t have Hogwarts Legacy, just make sure to uninstall anything suspicious and scan thoroughly. You might want to look into other security software for added protection.

I used Dodi because it was the only option for that specific game, but now I'm second-guessing!

It's definitely a good idea to be careful about where you're downloading repacks from. For now, run a full scan with Windows Defender and see if it picks up anything. If that doesn't clear the issue, you might need to consider reinstalling Windows. Just make sure to back up your important files first!

Can I just reset my laptop instead of a full reinstall?
