I'm running Linux Mint and I've got an NVIDIA 3080 graphics card. I've been having some trouble with the NVIDIA drivers since they seem to keep switching between nvidia-driver-580-open and 590 in the driver manager. When I choose the recommended driver and reboot, my system locks up completely when I try to open applications like Firefox. I have to force a restart, use a CLI, run fsck, and then I can use Mint again. Journalctl isn't providing clear diagnostics either. It feels like one of those classic Linux issues that experienced users recognize. Is this instinct right? What should I do to resolve this problem?

Have you tried running `nvidia-smi` to check the driver version and GPU usage? That can give you some insight into what's going wrong with your drivers after an update.
First, make sure that nouveau is blacklisted. That could definitely cause the lockup issues you're experiencing. It's worth checking if it's still being used after you thought you had blacklisted it.
Make sure you're using a more informative title next time. It helps attract the right kind of responses! Also, consider checking resource pages for better understanding of how to manage drivers effectively. Backing up your system might save you some headaches too!
