What Are Your Recent Experiences with HP Business Laptops?

I'm curious about HP business laptops, especially newer models like the Elitebook X G2i. We've switched from Lenovo X1 laptops after a not-so-great experience with HP back in 2017. Since the Elitebook has competitive specs and pricing, I want to know how well it holds up in real-world use. Specifically, I'm interested in how the USB-C ports perform after frequent docking and undocking, the durability of the hinges, battery swelling or degradation over time, any firmware or compatibility issues, fan noise, performance impacts like throttling, the responsiveness and durability of the keyboard and touchpad, and experiences with support and warranty claims. Additionally, how easy is it to repair or replace parts like the battery? Any insights would really help!

We recently transitioned to HP ProBook 650s and have had minimal issues. The performance is solid for our needs. I suggest opting for more RAM than you think you'll need since applications nowadays use more memory than ever. Just make sure to keep an eye on RAM prices—they're fluctuating due to demand from AI tech.

We’ve seen some users bottlenecking with 16GB RAM; moving to 32GB seems wise. And yeah, it’s a shame what’s happening with RAM prices right now.

Everyone's workloads will keep growing, so I agree—don’t underestimate RAM!

I've owned my HP EliteBook G10 for a while now. It’s not without flaws, though. Fan noise is a problem for me, and I didn't notice much improvement even after BIOS updates. The lack of USB-A ports is a bit annoying too, but I'm managing. The keyboard doesn't have that premium feel like ThinkPads, and battery life doesn’t impress either.

Battery life generally seems underwhelming! Roughly 4 hours is the max I'm seeing too.

I agree, the keyboard and touchpad definitely don't compare to ThinkPads. They’re functional, but you’ll notice the difference.

We tried the EliteBook 640 G11, and they’re just okay. Performance is decent, but the fan noise is noticeably louder compared to our Lenovos, and the keyboard isn't great either. Plus, the USB ports seem to wear down much quicker than expected.

If the fan noise is prevalent, that could really hamper meetings, especially if users grab the built-in mic, right?

We use a fleet of EliteBook 6 G1i and X Flip G1i models. Surprisingly, we have fewer issues with them compared to our Lenovo units. Battery life averages 4-5 hours since we have security tools running all the time, but other than that, performance is good and repairs are easy with our extended warranty.

That’s good to hear! Performance seems solid, but I’m worried about how the running tools affect battery life.

I once loved HP, but their business laptops have really declined lately. Issues with build quality, firmware, and support have been frustrating. I still believe some high-end Dell models might be a better investment in terms of durability.

Totally agree! There's definitely a sentiment leaning towards Lenovo for reliability, even when HP looks appealing on paper.

Which model do you recommend if I decide to steer away from HP?
