Hey everyone! I've just installed Windows 11 on my trusty old laptop, and while everything seems to be working, I'm having trouble getting internet access when connected to my local WiFi network. I can't use apps like Discord, and websites just sit there loading until I get a "The connection has timed out" error.
Interestingly, when I connect to the internet via a mobile hotspot on my phone, everything works perfectly. It seems to be an issue with my laptop itself, as my phone connects without any problems.
I thought the issue might be related to DNS settings, so I tried setting them to manual with Google's public DNS addresses (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), but that didn't help either. I also noticed that when I check my IP using www.whatismyip.com, it just shows "My IPv4: Not Detected," only displaying an IPv6 address. I'm uncertain what to do next; any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like your WiFi router isn't assigning IPv4 addresses to your devices. Try restarting your router; that might fix the issue and get it handing out IPv4 addresses again. If that doesn't work and your ISP is really only using IPv6, you might need to look into using IPv6 DNS servers instead of the Google ones you mentioned.

I’m using a Fritz!Box 7560 as my router connected to an ISP modem, and I restarted the router, but I’m still experiencing this problem. If what you're saying about IPv6 holds up, how can my phone connect without any issues then?
