Why is my old HP printer rejecting new ink cartridges?

I'm dealing with a frustrating issue with my 6-year-old HP Deskjet 3545 printer. It keeps rejecting brand new ink cartridges, even after I replaced the cartridge carrier unit. Is this a common problem with HP printers? Do they have a built-in mechanism that causes them to stop working after a certain age, or is it more about compatibility issues with new cartridges? Is there any workaround for this situation? I'm really annoyed about it!

Honestly, I think HP has a reputation for doing this. They probably program their printers to reject older models when using new cartridges. I’d recommend switching to brands like Epson or Brother. They might be more reliable in the long run.

I have an old LaserJet from 20 years ago, and it still works great! Not sure what's up with this Deskjet.

Yeah, HP really seems to put out some questionable products nowadays.

Are you sure you are using genuine HP cartridges? Sometimes that can make a huge difference. If they are legit, you might need to check if your printer's firmware is up to date. It can help with compatibility issues.

Yeah, they're genuine HP cartridges.

I couldn't find any firmware updates on the HP site, though.
