How to Transition to My First Role as an Azure Administrator?

Hey everyone! I've recently earned my AZ-104 and AZ-305 certifications, and I'm about to complete my Master's degree in Computer Science, focusing on Networking. I've even published an article at a notable conference and created a comprehensive Hub-and-Spoke architecture project on my GitHub using Terraform. This includes features like private endpoints, Azure Firewall, Bastion, private VMs, a storage account, Key Vault, and private DNS. I have about 3 years of experience as a DevOps engineer in a multinational company, but I'm looking to switch to an Azure Administrator position. My question is: should I start applying for jobs now, work on my CV, build more projects, or find a way to gain some practical Azure experience? Any tips would be appreciated!

With your certifications and solid experience, you’re definitely ready to start applying for jobs! You’ve got the skills and the project to back you up. I’d suggest focusing on roles like Azure Admin, Cloud Engineer, or Infrastructure Engineer and tailoring your CV and LinkedIn to emphasize Azure keywords. Being prepared to discuss your project in detail will help too—like why you chose a Hub-and-Spoke architecture and why you implemented each component. Maybe consider brushing up on some operational skills, as they often come up in admin interviews.

You’re definitely at the right level to start applying! Your certifications and projects show that you know what you're doing. Real experience in Azure will help you learn a ton, so getting a job rather than waiting to feel 'ready' is key. Companies value that knowledge and practical application.

Honestly, you should apply right away. With AZ-104, AZ-305, and your 3 years of DevOps experience, you’re looking at a strong profile for entry-level Azure positions. Just ensure your CV highlights your practical skills and projects because that's what employers look for. Gaining hands-on experience in Azure is best done in a real job, so don’t hesitate to jump in.

With your background, there's no reason not to start applying for jobs that interest you. Your AZ certifications already show expertise in Azure. Trying to gain real-world experience while waiting can delay your entry into the field. I've faced challenges too coming from a different angle, but it's all about gaining those hands-on skills.

For sure! It’s all about learning on the job. I’ll definitely start sending out my applications.
