Is Upgrading to AM5 Worth It for Gaming?

I'm considering an upgrade to my PC primarily to boost my gaming performance since I've been hitting some bottlenecks in various games. Currently, I have an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with solid components, but I'm looking to move to an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and a Gigabyte X870E Elite Wifi7 ATX AM5 Motherboard, along with G. Skill Flare X5 32 GB DDR5 RAM. Are these good choices? Will I see a significant performance increase coming from an AM4 setup? Any personal experiences or insights would be really helpful. Thanks!

The Gigabyte motherboard is a bit overkill unless you're getting it as part of a bundle deal. Have you checked out alternatives? Some options on the lower end could still provide great performance without breaking the bank. Just curious, why go for AM5 now?

I totally get the overkill point, but I really like the build quality from Gigabyte. Plus, it's on sale for $280, which seems decent for all its features. I'm open to suggestions though; any you recommend?

Definitely see your point! I'm looking into other options to compare.

Honestly, I think now's not the best time to jump to DDR5. Your current setup looks solid, and a decent GPU upgrade might serve you better. If you're bottlenecking, upgrade there first and see how it goes!

That’s fair! I've heard RAM prices are a concern though, and I'm worried it might get worse. I figured now is a good time since I can get the RAM for about $380 on Newegg.

If you're looking at bundles from places like Microcenter, the RAM might not be as overpriced as it seems.

Upgrading to AM5 won't yield huge gains unless you're pushing a high refresh rate at 1080p or using top-end GPUs like the RTX 4090 or above. AM4 can still handle most GPUs quite well, so consider if it's truly necessary for your needs.

Stick with your current motherboard unless you have specific needs for overclocking or blazing-fast Wi-Fi. For RAM, have you looked at the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo? It’s around the same price but with slightly better latency.
