I'm really wondering why OpenAI is willing to spend $3 billion on WindSurf, which is an IDE company. Personally, I'm struggling to see the long-term value in this move. There are other options out there like LangChain, which has a solid reputation as an agentic framework, or even Zapier, which could create a "super app" for OAI due to its extensive API access. What are your thoughts on this situation?

I think OpenAI sees value in having a solid interface for their technology. Even though IDEs are still relevant, they might want to secure a good one before competitors like Cursor become too pricey. Plus, they've got their eye on certain industries where they plan to roll out specific products, and coding tools is a smart place to start.
But couldn't they just create their own IDE instead?
