Trouble Booting Zorin Linux from USB on Old Windows 7 Laptop

I'm trying to get my Toshiba Satellite P500 laptop, which originally ran Windows 7, to boot Zorin Linux from a USB drive, but no matter what I try, it just loads Windows 7 instead. I've gone into the boot menu and set it to boot from USB, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this working?

If that laptop is from around 2009-10, it might be worth removing the hard drive and upgrading to an SSD anyway. Once Windows is gone, the system shouldn't attempt to boot into it. Another option is to hammer the F12 key when starting up to access the boot menu directly and select the USB from there.

First, make sure the USB drive works on another PC. If it does, check how you created the USB. I suggest using Rufus to make sure it’s set up properly. Also, your laptop's BIOS settings might need adjusting. Go into BIOS and ensure USB boot is prioritized over the HDD.

Confirm that you’ve verified the USB image. If your BIOS settings allow, try resetting it or changing boot order preferences to see if that helps.
