Help! Tiny11 Isn’t Booting in VirtualBox on Ubuntu 22.04

I'm a PhD student and I need Windows to write all my papers since LibreOffice just doesn't cut it. I'm trying to run Tiny11 in VirtualBox on my custom-built gaming PC. Here's my setup: 128 GB DDR5 RAM, 3080Ti GPU, and a Threadripper 1950x CPU. However, I'm stuck because every time I try to load Tiny11, I enter a loop after entering the Windows 11 product key. It creates another partition but never actually boots into Windows. Any advice?

You should definitely think about upgrading from Ubuntu 22.04. The latest LTS is 24.04, and with all the security updates that come with newer versions, running outdated software isn't a good idea. You can easily edit your sources file to upgrade directly, or just download a new ISO and reinstall. It’s worth it for the extra security and features!

I hear you about LibreOffice! Have you given OnlyOffice a shot? It changed the game for me when it comes to document compatibility. If you're still struggling with VirtualBox, you might try the virtualbox-kvm project for better results!

I’ve seen those projects before; they look promising! I'll definitely check them out as an alternative!

First off, could you share a bit more about what you've tried so far? It helps to know what specifically is going wrong. If you're stuck in an install loop, it might be due to your VM settings. Make sure you're allowing your virtual machine to reboot properly and not booting from the installation CD again. Maybe consider upgrading to a newer version of Ubuntu for better compatibility, or trying QEMU/KVM with GNOME Boxes for a smoother experience. Also, have you thought about using OnlyOffice instead of LibreOffice? It's often much better for Microsoft compatibility.

I've checked my VM settings and confirmed that it's booting correctly. I’ll give OnlyOffice a try, thanks for the suggestion!

If you're looking for better performance, you might consider a more budget-friendly CPU instead of the Threadripper. VirtualBox should ideally be straightforward, but performance can vary. You could also try using the official Windows ISO and select the English (Worldwide) option to ensure it’s debloated for a smoother install.

Honestly, Tiny11 can be quite risky as it's not very secure. You might want to switch to a more stable version of Windows. Also, have you considered running Microsoft Office in a container instead of a full VM? There are many options available, including various text editors and office suites that work on Linux and are compatible with Microsoft products. Think about using KVM with virt-manager for better performance too. Trust me, it’ll save you some headaches!
