Is this replacement RAM genuine, and is ₹4,500 a fair price?

I'm 25 and based in Bangalore. My 7–8-year-old laptop stopped turning on after sitting unused for a couple of years. A local repair shop says the RAM has failed and wants to replace it with the module shown in the attached video. They're charging ₹4,500 and claim the price is high because of current global economic conditions and increased chipset costs. Does the RAM look genuine, and is that price reasonable for an older laptop? Also, can RAM actually fail simply because a laptop was left unpowered for several years?

₹4,500 sounds very high for DDR3 or similar memory used in a 7–8-year-old laptop. Prices vary by capacity and local availability, but current chip prices aren’t a good reason to accept an unexplained markup. Compare the exact RAM specifications and get quotes from another repair shop or a reputable seller first.

RAM doesn’t normally fail just because a laptop was unused or uncharged. That explanation is more typical for a battery, not memory. The module could still be defective, but the shop should test it properly and explain the diagnostic results. I’d pay only for the work already done, take the laptop back, and get a second opinion before approving the replacement.

The attached video isn’t visible here, so nobody can reliably verify the label or authenticity from it. Also, a laptop that won’t start may have a failed charger, battery, motherboard, display, or storage drive—not just RAM. Ask the shop to test the original memory in the laptop or with a diagnostic tool and provide the exact replacement model, capacity, speed, and warranty before paying.
