I'm upgrading from a Huawei Y9 2019 to an iPhone 15 Plus. The 128GB model fits my budget and has the features I want, but I'm worried it may fill up quickly. I've used only about 44GB on my current 128GB phone, though that's partly because its camera isn't good enough for me to take many photos or videos. With the iPhone, I expect to photograph my cat, scenery, selfies, and videos more often. I'm not a photographer or content creator, so I don't expect extremely heavy usage. Is 128GB likely to be enough, or would upgrading to 256GB be worth the extra cost?

The concern is less about immediately running out and more about future-proofing. Photos and especially videos accumulate because people forget to delete them. If you plan to keep the phone for several years and can comfortably afford it, 256GB is the safer choice; otherwise, 128GB should be fine if you manage storage occasionally.
Cloud photo storage can give you plenty of breathing room. If you use a service such as iCloud Photos with storage optimization enabled, the full-resolution originals can stay in the cloud while smaller versions remain on the phone. Just remember that this requires a subscription and doesn’t replace having a backup.
Think about offline media before deciding. Music, downloaded shows, games, and large apps can use far more space than expected. Someone who keeps a big music library on the phone could need over 100GB by itself, but a mostly streaming-based setup won’t have that problem.
For moderate use, 128GB can be perfectly workable. The biggest factors are how many photos and videos you keep locally, whether you download music or movies, and how long you plan to keep the phone. Apps may be larger on iPhone, but your current usage leaves you with a useful amount of headroom.
It also depends heavily on your habits. Someone with a large offline music collection may fill 128GB quickly, while someone who streams most things may never come close.
