Should I Return an Open-Box iPad That Won’t Charge Reliably?

I bought an open-box iPad from a local electronics retailer for school to save money. It looked clean with no visible damage, although it didn't include a charger. The iPad had about 3% battery left, initially wouldn't charge with three different chargers, and only began charging after I reset it. Now it says liquid has been detected in the charging port and won't charge again. Since I'm still within the return or exchange period, should I take it back, or could this just be a minor issue? I'm worried that keeping it could lead to more expensive problems later.

I’d treat this as a major problem, not a small quirk. If the charging port fails completely, the iPad becomes unusable once the battery runs down. Since you have the option to return it, getting a different unit is the safer choice.

Return or exchange it as soon as you can. A liquid-detection warning combined with the earlier charging problem isn’t something I’d dismiss, especially on a device you need for school. If the port has moisture or corrosion, the issue could get worse and may affect warranty coverage.

Open-box devices can be good deals, but the return policy is there for situations exactly like this. Don’t keep testing it with different chargers or try to force it to charge while the warning is showing. Return it and explain both the initial charging failure and the liquid alert.
