My current gaming PC was built in 2016 for about $1,200 and still works surprisingly well: an Intel i5-7500, 16GB DDR4, Radeon RX 480 8GB, a 1TB NVMe drive, a 128GB SSD, and a 5TB hard drive. I'm finally ready for a major upgrade and want something aimed at 1440p gaming, PS2 and Switch emulation, and ideally another 7–10 years of useful life.
I'm considering a Micro Center bundle priced at $749.99 with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, ASUS B650E MAX Gaming WiFi motherboard, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory. I'd pair it with an ASRock RX 9070 16GB for $629.99, an ASRock PRO-750G 750W 80+ Gold power supply for $54.99, a Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE cooler for $16.11, and a MUSETEX Y6 case for $59.39. I would initially reuse my existing storage drives, bringing the total to roughly $1,510 out of an $1,800 budget.
I originally planned a 7600X3D and B650M system, but the 7800X3D bundle is only around $20 more than the separate CPU, motherboard, and memory I had considered. I'm also willing to use an ATX case now as long as it is not excessively large.
Does this look well balanced for the money? Is the 7800X3D bundle worth choosing over a 7600X3D setup, and is the RX 9070 a good match for 1440p gaming? I'd also appreciate feedback on the ASUS motherboard, whether 750W is enough, the cooler and case, and whether upgrading to an RX 9070 XT or changing any other parts would be worthwhile while staying under $1,800.

The RX 9070 XT is worth considering if the price difference is only about $70. That is a relatively small increase for a noticeable GPU upgrade, especially since your goal is to keep the system for many years. The 7800X3D bundle still makes sense, and the 9070 XT should pair well with it for 1440p.
The overall platform is a strong choice: the 7800X3D bundle gives you excellent gaming performance and 32GB of DDR5 without paying today’s inflated standalone memory prices. The RX 9070’s 16GB of VRAM is also a sensible choice for long-term 1440p use. I wouldn’t reject a component solely because of its brand, though I would check independent reviews for the exact graphics card and power-supply models, including thermals, noise, warranty coverage, and voltage regulation. If the XT fits the budget, prioritize it over cosmetic upgrades, and consider adding a larger SSD later because a 128GB drive will be limiting for modern games.
Reusing the existing storage is fine as a temporary measure, but the older SSD and hard drive may make game loading feel much slower than the new platform. I’d reserve part of the remaining budget for a 2TB NVMe SSD rather than trying to force every dollar into the CPU or motherboard. Also verify that the case has good airflow and enough room for the selected graphics card; some inexpensive cases include several fans but still have restrictive front panels.
A 750W unit can run this setup, particularly with the standard RX 9070, but I’d be more comfortable with a high-quality 850W model if you move to the 9070 XT and want extra headroom for future upgrades. Undervolting the graphics card is another option. I’d also replace the small single-tower cooler with a decent dual-tower air cooler, since the 7800X3D can run warm during sustained workloads. The motherboard upgrade is mainly worthwhile if you specifically need the newer connectivity or features; it is not automatically necessary for gaming.
Would spending roughly $30 more on the newer motherboard provide any meaningful benefit, or would that money be better spent on the cooler or graphics card?

I completely missed that small price gap while comparing parts. I started with an $1,800 limit and have mostly been trying to fine-tune the build, so I’ll take a closer look at the XT model.
