I'm planning a new PC and trying to decide whether to install both a 2TB and a 4TB SSD. My idea is to use the 2TB drive for the operating system and games, then use the 4TB drive for additional files and storage. I'm also trying to save money for the rest of the computer and setup, so I'm wondering whether buying both drives now is worthwhile or if I should start with one and add more later.

A second SSD is worth buying if you actually need the extra capacity, want a separate drive for organization, or have workloads that benefit from reading and writing to different drives at the same time. Otherwise, modern NVMe SSDs are already fast enough that two drives won’t make a noticeable difference for normal gaming and everyday use.
SSD longevity varies, but a decent used drive with reasonable usage can still be fine. Even so, I wouldn’t buy a second drive purely for redundancy—an SSD can fail after years of use, and only a proper backup protects your files.
Using a 2TB drive for the operating system and frequently used programs, with a 4TB drive for games and other files, is a perfectly sensible setup. It’s especially useful if you have a large game library, since newer games can take well over 100GB each. If your current storage needs are modest, though, buying the second drive later may be better for your budget.
You can always leave the second M.2 slot empty and add another drive when you genuinely start running low on space.
