I'm using a 24-inch 1080p monitor and can clearly notice the pixel structure, especially on white or other light-colored backgrounds. The image sometimes looks hazy or smeared, almost like the screen has been wiped with a damp cloth or has a dirty screen protector. In games, bright areas such as the sky look grainy and slightly pixelated. When I slowly scroll a light-colored webpage with the middle mouse button, I can see pixel-like trails or moving artifacts. I tested another ASUS monitor at a computer store and noticed a similar effect. Is this normal for 24-inch 1080p displays, possibly caused by the panel coating or pixel density, or could there be a problem with my monitor? Would moving to 1440p make a noticeable difference?

Pixel visibility is also affected by viewing distance and eyesight. Sitting farther away will make the pixel grid less obvious, while sitting close can make it stand out even on higher-resolution displays. However, obvious colored speckles, severe smearing, or trails that remain after scrolling stops could indicate a coating, response-time, overdrive, or cable/settings issue rather than resolution alone.
Some visible pixels are normal at 24 inches and 1080p, particularly from a typical desk distance. The pixel density is about 92 PPI, so fine text, bright backgrounds, and large flat-color areas won’t look perfectly smooth to everyone. The grainy or slightly hazy appearance can also come from the monitor’s anti-glare coating, which differs between panels.

That makes sense. The coating is what it resembles most—it looks like the surface is slightly smudged even though it’s clean.
