I'm really worried because I think iCloud might have deleted all my old photos! I have an iPhone 14 and ran out of storage on both my phone and iCloud a few months back. I kept procrastinating on deleting some photos. Recently, I noticed that some of my Favorites were missing, but I shrugged it off. However, when I searched for an old photo from 2023 today, I found it's gone, along with all my photos dating back to 2019. I'm terrified they've been deleted altogether. My iCloud hasn't been backed up, and I'm hoping they were just removed from my device and not from my iCloud account. I really don't know why this could have happened.

Why not just upgrade your iCloud storage until you had time to sort through your photos? That could help prevent this kind of problem in the future.
Unfortunately, photos can also get lost for other reasons. I had a similar experience where I lost all my iCloud photos from as far back as 2012 just because I didn’t use my iPhone for a while. I tried contacting support, but it didn’t help me get them back.
If you're really desperate, some services let you recover missing photos if you're willing to pay. Just be careful with that.
Yeah, that can definitely happen if you run out of storage without backups! Your phone likely warned you about the storage issue, but it might not have been clear that photos could just disappear like that. It’s frustrating for sure!
