I keep receiving warnings that my Google storage is full, and I'm worried about losing access to account features. I've tried turning off or undoing photo backup in Google Photos and using the storage cleanup tool, but the amount of used space hasn't decreased. I also can't find anything in the trash. What should I check to identify what is using the storage and permanently remove it?

The storage warning usually means you may lose access to features such as new photo backups or incoming email; it doesn’t normally mean the account will be deleted after a few weeks just because storage is full. Check the exact wording of the alert and avoid clicking links in suspicious messages. Use the official account storage page directly, review every category, and consider exporting important photos before deleting anything.
Turning off backup or using “Undo backup” doesn’t necessarily remove every copy immediately, and deleted items can continue counting against storage while they’re in Trash. Open the storage manager and check the breakdown for Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Look specifically for large videos, old backups, Gmail messages with big attachments, and files in Drive. After deleting anything you don’t need, empty the Trash in each service and allow some time for the storage total to update.
I checked the cleanup area but it didn’t show anything obvious, and I wasn’t sure whether the photos were actually being removed or just having backup disabled.
Shared files generally count toward the owner’s storage, but files you own in Drive, Gmail attachments, Photos, and device backups are still worth checking individually. The storage breakdown should show which category is actually responsible.
