I'm dealing with stability problems on my 13th-generation Intel system and am considering switching to AMD. I'd like a reasonably similar CPU, but I need to keep using my 16GB of DDR4 memory. For gaming, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the closest AM4 option and pairs well with a B550 motherboard and your existing DDR4. A used Ryzen 7 5700X3D is also worth considering if it costs noticeably less. The X3D chips are particularly strong in games, although they won’t match the 13700KF in heavily threaded editing workloads.
If video editing and other multi-core work matter as much as gaming, look at a Ryzen 9 5900X, 5900XT, or 5950X on a B550 board. The 5950X is the closest choice for sustained productivity performance, while the 5900X is often a better value. Gaming performance will generally be below a 5800X3D or 5700X3D, though.
Before replacing the platform, make sure the instability is actually caused by the CPU. BIOS updates, Intel power limits, memory settings, motherboard firmware, cooling, and RAM can all cause similar crashes. Updating the BIOS and running the processor at Intel-default settings may fix the problem without requiring a complete rebuild.
AM4 is the straightforward way to reuse DDR4, but you’ll need an AMD motherboard because the existing Intel board cannot be reused. A B550 board with a 5700X3D or 5800X3D would be a sensible gaming-focused setup, and the 750W power supply should be adequate for that system and your graphics card.
