I recently started having some stuttering in games on my Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Radeon 7900 XTX system, so I enabled performance overlays to investigate. I noticed the CPU often reaches around 75°C in Elden Ring and Helldivers 2, and it has climbed to about 81°C in Monster Hunter Wilds. I've seen other owners report staying below 70°C, so I'm wondering whether these temperatures are normal for the 7800X3D or if my Lian Li AIO might be having trouble. I also sometimes see desktop idle temperatures around 59–64°C, although the system currently has quite a bit of software clutter and may need a clean Windows installation.

It’s worth checking the AIO liquid temperature as well as the CPU temperature. If the coolant temperature is reasonably close to the CPU’s sustained temperature during a load, the cooler is probably transferring heat normally. A large difference or unusually warm coolant could point to airflow, pump, or mounting issues. The exact steps depend on which Lian Li AIO software and model you’re using.
Those temperatures are generally normal for a 7800X3D. The chip is designed to operate up to roughly 85°C and will boost as needed, so gaming temperatures in the mid-70s or even low-80s aren’t automatically a problem. Idle readings around 59–64°C can also happen depending on background tasks, fan curves, room temperature, and how the monitoring software samples temperatures.
That’s reassuring, thanks. I’m also seeing 59–64°C at the desktop, and I’m due for a fresh Windows install because there’s a lot of background clutter on the system.
I’ll check the coolant temperature. The Lian Li software is a little awkward to navigate, so I haven’t found that reading yet.
