Will AppleCare cover a repair after I canceled and immediately renewed it?

I had a two-year AppleCare plan on my iPhone 17 Pro Max, but I canceled it this morning because I was considering selling the phone. The sale fell through, so I decided to keep it and renewed AppleCare from the phone using a monthly plan. The purchase went through and I received a confirmation email from Apple. Unfortunately, I dropped the phone shortly afterward and cracked the screen. Apple Support said they could not arrange a replacement yet and asked me to check back after 24 hours. I'm in Canada, where a screen repair is reportedly around $600 without AppleCare but about $39 with coverage. Has anyone dealt with canceling AppleCare, re-subscribing immediately, and then needing a repair? Does the confirmation email mean the plan is active right away, or could Apple require additional verification or apply a waiting period?

A confirmation email is a good sign, but Apple will determine coverage based on the plan’s activation status and its claim rules. New or recently renewed coverage can take a little time to appear in the repair system, so checking again after 24 hours makes sense. Be honest and answer any questions they ask about when the damage happened; withholding details could create a bigger problem than the timing itself.

The important things are whether the monthly plan was successfully purchased before the damage occurred and whether the coverage is active in Apple’s system. Keep the confirmation email and subscription details, then contact Apple or visit a store once the plan has had time to sync. Avoid trying to manipulate the timeline; just provide accurate information if they ask.

Someone reported having a similar same-day accident after starting AppleCare One and successfully getting a repair a couple of days later for the service fee. That suggests it may work, but one person’s experience is not a guarantee—Apple can still review the specific plan and incident.
