Hey everyone! I'm trying to fully switch to Linux after having limited experience with Ubuntu and Fedora during my university days. I've used a bit of the terminal but I'm still on the hunt for a distro that fits my needs. I'm looking for something that is stable, smooth, not too bloated, and really easy to use. Performance is super important too, especially since I want to be able to play games on it. My hardware runs Windows fine, but I've had some issues with Linux.
Here's what I've already tried:
- **Linux Mint**: It was decent, but I didn't like the desktop environment and it took ages to boot (around 3 minutes!).
- **TuxedoOS**: I switched to this because it was recommended for better Nvidia GPU driver stability. It looked great at first, but it felt laggy and my Bluetooth adapter didn't work, which meant I couldn't use my gamepad. I tried everything and it just wouldn't connect.
So, can anyone recommend beginner-friendly distros that are easy to use and run smoothly? Specifically, I want something stable and fast that works well out of the box, particularly in terms of Nvidia drivers and Bluetooth support. Thanks!

Honestly, I'd suggest going for Debian. It's super stable, runs well on lower specs, and the community is really helpful if you hit any issues. Performance-wise, it should suit your gaming needs just fine!
Thanks! I’ll definitely consider trying it out.
I just made the switch to Arch because of Steam Proton, and it's been working great! I have some Linux experience, though, so keep in mind it's not the easiest for beginners. If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, it’s worth it for the performance.
But isn't Arch hard to set up? I thought beginners might struggle with it.
True, it does require more initial setup, but there are plenty of resources out there to guide you!
You should give ZorinOS a try! It's really stable and user-friendly, perfect for someone just starting out with Linux. Plus, it has a layout that’s easy to navigate, making the transition smoother.
If you’re really into gaming, you might want to check out Bazzite or Nobara. They’re designed for gamers and have great out-of-the-box support for Nvidia graphics. Plus, their stability is impressive without being bloated!
I've heard good things about Nobara, especially for gaming. How easy is it to get the Nvidia drivers running?
Super easy! Compared to other distros, it’s like they’ve simplified the installation process to make it seamless.
I agree! The community around Debian is fantastic, and every second I spend using it makes me feel more comfortable with Linux.
