Should I Create an Extra Partition for Setup Files on School Laptops?

Hey everyone, I've been given the task of imaging drives for our school's laptops. My manager suggested that we should create an extra unencrypted partition specifically for storing setup files for tools and applications that were necessary during the image creation process. I wanted to get your opinions—do you think this is a good idea or would it complicate things unnecessarily?

I think creating another partition just complicates things. File servers are meant for this kind of job, and they’d keep everything centralized and easier to manage.

That makes sense! We've done that for staff laptops, but this is the first year students are getting laptops.

Honestly, I don't even understand why this is being proposed. If your manager isn't technical, it might be good to explain how extra partitions can cause more issues than they solve.

Yeah, having an additional partition sounds like a nightmare for keeping software up to date. Have you thought about using tools like winget for managing installs?

Honestly, I don't really see the point of an extra partition. Why not just use a OneDrive share for storing the installers? That way, you can have easy access without adding complexity.

That’s a good point! I figured it could help for reinstallation, but OneDrive sounds simpler.
