Why Is My Gaming PC Lagging Intermittently with No Clear Indicators?

I've built a custom gaming PC that's quite capable of handling both my gaming needs and work as a data analyst and PM. Recently, I've noticed that my PC has been lagging intermittently. It's not constant, but I experience it mainly when I have a game like Baldur's Gate 3 open in the background. The strange part is that there are no performance indicators showing issues; the CPU, RAM, and SSD usage appear normal according to Task Manager, and the GPU isn't being overworked either. I'm unsure of what could be causing these lags and would love some advice on how to identify the bottleneck. Any tips on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated!

It might be worth checking your RAM speed and timings. If they're not optimal, they could cause slowdowns, especially with high-demand applications. Also, consider updating your GPU drivers; that can sometimes fix unexpected lags.

Good point! I haven't checked the RAM timings yet. I’ll definitely look into the drivers too; I've been meaning to do that.

Have you tried monitoring the CPU and RAM usage while gaming? Sometimes certain apps can cause performance hiccups even when they don't seem to be using a lot of resources. Running a performance monitoring tool like MSI Afterburner could give you more detailed insights.

Yeah, I’m looking into that. It’s strange since the resource usage looks fine, but maybe there's something I've missed. Thanks for the tip!
