Hey everyone, I've just wrapped up my new computer build, which features a 5090 graphics card and a 9950X3D processor. Currently, I'm using an APC Back-UPS Pro UPS (specifically the BN1500M2 model), which has a capacity of 1500 VA and 900 W. I have two monitors and my PC plugged into it, but I've noticed that when I put the system under heavier load, the UPS starts beeping at me. I'm wondering if my UPS is enough? Should I consider plugging my setup into surge-only outlets instead of battery backup? What other options do I have?

It sounds like you're definitely drawing too much power! That RTX 5090 can consume nearly 600W by itself, and with the CPU at about 170W, plus additional power for your components and the monitors, you're likely pushing past 800W. If your monitors are consuming around 200W together, that can put you over the UPS limit. I recommend plugging one of your monitors into a regular outlet to relieve some of the load on the UPS.
Unfortunately, the APC BN1500M2 is pretty much at its limit for what you’re running. If you want to keep using everything on battery backup, you might consider looking for a higher wattage UPS, but they can be pricey. A good tip would be to take everything off battery except for the computer and one monitor to stay under the 900W limit. You could even look into buying a second UPS for your peripherals and monitors to balance the load better.
Remember that UPS systems are primarily designed to give you enough time to safely shut down your equipment, not to power everything indefinitely. If you're looking for something more robust, you might need to consider a whole-home UPS system for longer runtimes. But if you're okay with just having surge protection and quick shutdown capabilities like I am, that's a solid use case for your current setup.
