What’s the Best Lightweight Linux for an Old Laptop?

I want to install a lightweight Linux distribution on my old laptop. My dad has Windows 10 on it, but it runs really poorly. He mainly needs it for browsing with Firefox, listening to music, and occasionally watching movies. Do you think Linux Mint would be too heavy for his machine? Here are the specs:
- Intel Pentium B960 (2011) with 2 cores and 2 threads, running at 2.2 GHz
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- Integrated HD (Sandy Bridge) GPU

Should I consider Peppermint instead, or is Linux Mint a viable option?

I’m using Mint with XFCE on a similar older laptop, and it works just fine! No major issues, so I think it could work for your dad too.

Peppermint OS should work well, but sometimes Mint or Ubuntu can lag on older hardware. You might want to explore Peppermint or even Loc-OS LXDE for the best performance.

I've heard great things about Bodhi Linux. It’s lightweight and should run smoothly on your dad's hardware.

You might want to try a distro with the XFCE desktop environment or even something lighter like i3 if your dad is comfortable with tech. Debian could be a solid choice for the system itself!

If it helps, consider trying Linux Mint XFCE or MX Linux with Fluxbox. Both are lightweight options that could fit your needs. Check out their download pages for more info!
