Hey folks, I recently uploaded my resume to ChatGPT just to get some formatting help and make it look more professional. What really threw me off was that instead of just giving me a revised version of my resume, it returned another person's private information — like their phone number, email, name, and other details that had nothing to do with me. This totally freaked me out since I only uploaded my own file. Now I'm left with some serious questions:
- How could this happen?
- Is OpenAI mixing up user files or storing them incorrectly?
- If I received someone else's data, is my info being shared with others too?
- Can we really trust these platforms with our sensitive documents like resumes and IDs?
I've pinged support about this, but it feels important for others to be aware of the potential privacy risks. Has anyone else run into a similar issue? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Honestly, I’m not surprised. AI models learn from all the data they process, and they’re not perfect. Always assume that anything sensitive you share could potentially be misused or mixed up with someone else’s data. Just keep that in mind!
You can turn off that "Improve the model for everyone" feature in settings. If you do that, it won't use your content for training its models. But honestly, how can you even be sure that it’s truly off?
That’s why I play it safe and use fake info on my resume when getting it reviewed. Just don’t give AI more data than it needs for the task. Better safe than sorry!
Seems like this has been a growing issue lately. Reports started popping up around late April where people are getting random personal info in responses. I heard about one instance where someone got access to another person’s healthcare records in a totally separate thread, which is just wild! Be careful, everyone!
Seriously, it’s alarming! Imagine receiving someone else's private info when you’re just trying to get help with your own documents.
Exactly! How do we truly guarantee our data is safe if we can’t fully verify these settings?
