Best Way to Encrypt an External Drive for Data Transfer?

Hey everyone! I need to transfer a large amount of data from one client to another due to a sale, and I'll be using an external drive for this since the size of the data makes online transfer impractical. I'm considering using BitLocker to encrypt the drive, especially since I'm pretty sure the other client is using Windows devices. Before I finalize my approach, I'd love to hear any other suggestions or best practices for this. Also, should I just save the recovery key as a text file and send that to the client? Thanks!

BitLocker will work well! If you can install software on both ends, I suggest using Veracrypt; it’s super user-friendly. If you’re worried about the container file getting damaged, consider Cryptomator, which encrypts each file individually for extra safety.

Totally agree! Veracrypt is a great choice. Just remember to keep a backup of your keys!

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into Veracrypt and Cryptomator. They seem like useful options!

Using BitLocker is definitely a solid choice! I had a similar situation where I needed to send 20TB of data internationally. We encrypted our external drives with BitLocker, and to securely share the password, we uploaded it to a OneDrive folder that only a specific person could access. That way, it stayed secure during the transfer.

If you're open to other options, I recommend the IronKey drives. They're on the pricier side but provide excellent encryption. It could be worth the investment if the data is sensitive.
