How Do I Convert My Old Hard Drive into a Portable Drive?

I'm trying to repurpose a hard drive from an old computer and turn it into a portable drive. I recently purchased a 3.5" enclosure, but I ran into issues when trying to put it together. I'm wondering if I bought the wrong type of connection. Can anyone help me figure out what the right connection is?

It looks like you're dealing with a SATA adapter, but the hard drive you're trying to use is actually an older IDE type. These two connections are not compatible, so you'll need an IDE enclosure instead of the SATA one you have.

Yeah, it seems like you mistakenly got a SATA enclosure. For an IDE drive, you should look for an IDE enclosure. I found a good option on Amazon that might work for you! You can check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ARNCYEU

Keep in mind that since this is an older hard drive, the transfer speeds won't be great. You're mostly going to get slower performance from it as a portable drive.
