Why is my PC constantly using nearly all 32GB of RAM?

I've had my PC for about two years, and it's been great, but I'm experiencing some serious memory issues lately. Typically, it starts up using around 20% of memory, but once I open apps like Chrome, it suddenly spikes to almost 32GB of RAM usage within 10-20 minutes, even after closing them. This causes smaller applications to crash and occasionally freezes my PC. I'm worried it might be a memory leak or something similar. I don't have any viruses, as I check regularly, and I've tried several fixes, like updating drivers and limiting startup apps, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be really appreciated! Here are my PC specs: 32GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro, 3TB storage with 500GB remaining, and an AMD Ryzen 7 5700x 8-core processor.

A straightforward approach could be to reformat your system. Sometimes, a bad Windows update can corrupt files and cause issues like this. It’s a hassle, but a fresh install can resolve a lot of unexplained problems!

You might want to share a screenshot of your Task Manager sorted by memory usage. That could give you better insight into which applications or background processes are consuming RAM.

Have you used Resource Monitor to check which processes are taking up the most memory in the background? It might help you identify any culprits that are hogging your RAM.

If you’re still running into issues, it might be a good idea to consider a fresh install of Windows. It can be a bit of work, but it often resolves persistent bugs like these without a clear cause.
