Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my PC since my current CPU, the Intel i5 9400F, is starting to feel a bit sluggish. I've been checking out AM5 CPUs, but they're all way beyond my budget. I came across a Ryzen 5 7600X, but it's a bit pricey, plus I'd need a new motherboard and RAM since it doesn't support DDR4. On the other hand, I found a Ryzen 7 5800X at a great price that would fit my budget and would allow me to reuse my current DDR4 RAM. I'm not super knowledgeable about these things, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether the upgrade to a 5800X makes sense!

I built my first PC using the Ryzen 7 5800X and it worked like a charm! It really packs a punch and can handle heavy workloads well.
I’d suggest saving a bit more and looking at the Ryzen 7500F or 7600. It may be a little more expensive because of the DDR5 RAM, but it’ll set you up for a stronger, more future-proof platform in the long run. Getting a decent 2x16GB RAM and a good motherboard will make future upgrades easier too.
What's your budget looking like? It really helps to narrow down options!
What do you mainly use your PC for? The i5 9400F is still pretty capable unless you’re diving into the latest AAA games. It might be worth it to focus on upgrading your GPU first, and if you haven't already, consider adding an SSD or increasing your RAM if you're below 16GB.
I mainly game, especially AAA titles. I have 32GB of RAM, an M.2 SSD, and I’m running a GTX 3050. I know my GPU may need an upgrade eventually, but right now a CPU upgrade seems manageable.
I've got about $225 to spend, and the 5800X is going for $160.
