Anyone else having KB5094122 fail on Server 2016?

Several Windows Server 2016 machines are failing to install KB5094122 through Windows Update with error 0x80070002. Installing the downloaded package with DISM has worked, but I’m wondering whether there’s a known cause or a better way to handle it.

If the downloaded update package installs successfully with DISM, that’s a reasonable workaround for now. The same Windows Update failure and manual-install success have been reported on more than one Server 2016 machine, so I’d document which servers are affected and confirm the update is installed after reboot.

Error 0x80070002 means something needed by the operation wasn’t found, but that alone doesn’t identify the cause. A damaged or incomplete servicing baseline is one possibility, including after component cleanup or an interrupted update, though there isn’t enough here to pin it on that.

I’d check the servicing logs before running cleanup commands, especially anything that removes superseded components. If the normal update path keeps failing, using the full update package with DISM avoids relying on the same download path that’s erroring.

Just a heads-up that the manual DISM install may take a while on these machines. One reported attempt ran for hours, including time after reboot, so allow a maintenance window and avoid interrupting it just because it looks slow. The reports don’t establish that every install will take that long, though.
