I’m brand new to programming and put together a simple calculator after learning a little about arithmetic and if/else. I’m proud of getting it to work, but I don’t fully understand the conditional part yet. What would be useful to learn or check next?
I made a tiny calculator after starting C++. What should I focus on next?

That first moment when a little idea turns into a working program is worth being proud of. For the if/else part, think of it as choosing between paths: if a condition is true, run one bit of code; otherwise, run another. Try changing the condition on purpose and see which path runs. That makes the syntax feel less like something to memorize.

Without the actual code, nobody can give a meaningful code review, but a good next step is to test the edges. What happens if someone enters an unknown operation, types text instead of a number, or tries to divide by zero? You don’t need to solve every case right away. Just notice what the program does, then pick one thing to improve.

Keep the project small and keep tinkering. Make the calculator handle one new thing at a time, such as repeating calculations or letting the user choose another operation. When you hit an unfamiliar line, pause and figure out what it does rather than relying on suggestions you can’t explain yet. Slow progress is still progress.

That helps. I’ll try changing the conditions and see what each branch does before adding more features.
