Best ChatGPT Model for Translating Complex Novels?

I'm interested in reading the Zaregoto Series by NisiOisin, but I have a bit of a challenge—these novels are known for their complicated style and word play, and unfortunately, I don't know Japanese. The English version is also difficult for me to understand as English is not my native language. I plan to use a ChatGPT model for translation to help me read it, but I have a limitation with the use of the 4o model on the free plan. I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for my 4o usage limit to reset, or would it be a better option to use other models? Which ChatGPT version do you think would be more effective for this purpose? Note: This is for personal use only, not for commercial purposes.

That suggestion has a ton of info! But honestly, it feels a bit excessive. You might want to simplify things a bit to save on tokens and make it less overwhelming. Just keeping the main ideas without all those extra steps might do the trick.

If you're looking for a good experience, I suggest considering the Plus plan. It might be worth the investment when you think of the other benefits you could get. Alternatively, you could try Google AI Studio; it's pretty free and handles longer texts well, so that might work for translating your novels too.

Do you have access to the 4.1 Nano model? It can sometimes handle translations better, especially with complex texts like novels. But if you're stuck with 4o, just make sure you have a clear prompt set up!

I’ve got a suggestion for you! You might want to try a more creative approach rather than translating word-for-word. You could use a custom prompt for a 'Cultural Rewriting Engine'—it’s designed to recreate the essence of the text rather than just a literal translation. Just keep in mind that while it can seem like a lot at first, focusing on the tone and cultural nuances will really bring the story to life for you.
