Best CPU Choices for 1440p Gaming with an RTX 5070 Ti?

Hey everyone! In a few days, I'm heading to help a friend build a PC and we just snagged an RTX 5070 Ti at a great price, but it did eat into our budget quite a bit. We're now stuck choosing the CPU. We're considering the Intel i5-14400F with a B760M motherboard, but I've also been checking out AMD options like the Ryzen 5 7700X and 9600X. The catch is that AMD CPUs here are about $60 more expensive than the Intel option. The PC will primarily be for 1440p gaming and some light office work, so I'm worried about avoiding any bottlenecking and ensuring the GPU works its magic. Hardly anyone seems to recommend pairing the i5-14400F with the RTX 5070 Ti despite it being the most budget-friendly approach here. We can't stretch to the Ryzen 7 either since it's out of our budget. So, my question is: is the i5-14400F and B760M setup still a good combo for 1440p gaming with the 5070 Ti? Or is it worth the extra cost to go with an AMD CPU for better future-proofing?

I'd go for the Ryzen 7700 or 7700X; they're much stronger than the 14400F for gaming. If you're serious about gaming, AMD options just perform better overall. That extra $60 feels worth it for the performance boost, especially at 1440p!

The 14400F isn't great for gaming; you'd see better results with the Ryzen chips. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck, the 9600X is often recommended by many for your needs!

I recommend looking at the 13600K for Intel if you can find it cheap. It balances well between performance and budget. But for longevity, I'd suggest leaning towards AMD since Intel changes sockets so often!

Exactly, if you're future-proofing, AMD's the way to go, especially with the next-gen CPUs down the line.

Honestly, if you're spending a little more for AMD, the 9600X is a solid choice. The Intel you're considering is on a dead socket, while AMD's AM5 platform will be around longer. An upgrade in the future won't be as hard with AMD!

True, the AM5 platform does offer better upgrade paths for the next gen. Definitely something to think about!
