My dad is working on writing a book, but he's having a tough time typing it out. We've got him a dictaphone and a small laptop, but I'm looking for the best way for him to dictate his thoughts and have them transcribed into text. Are there any specific apps that you guys would recommend? I'm open to subscriptions as well. Any advice would really help! 🙁

You should check out 'Dragon Speech to Text' for dictation. It's really effective and widely used in professional environments. They have various options, but it works well even if you find some free alternatives from Google and other big names that are solid too.

If you're leaning towards open-source tools, 'Whisper' is a great option. On the other hand, if you want minimal hassle, I'd still recommend sticking with 'Dragon'. It's reliable and gets the job done.

Don't forget about the built-in voice-to-text feature in Windows! Just hit **Windows key + H** and it opens up a dictation toolbar. It’s super convenient for typing, just make sure his mic works and he's online for the best results. He can even add punctuation by saying it out loud!
